Mildred "Millie" Smolenski's Obituary
Millie Smolenski, age 85, of Grand Haven passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014 at North Ottawa Community Hospital. She was born June 28, 1929 in Grand Rapids to John and Mayme (Fritz) Knape.
She was a member of St. Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Spring Lake Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing and anticipated the Coast Guard Festival and the fireworks. She also loved to travel, spending time in Europe and going on cruises.
On June 21, 1952 she married Bill Smolenski and he preceded in her in death on October 5, 2008. She is survived by three children: Susie Smolenski, John (Sue) Smolenski and Tom Smolenski all of Grand Haven; two grandchildren, Matt (Kara) Smolenski, Tim (Kellie) Smolenski; two great-grandchildren, Angel and Liv; and grand-cat, Lily. She is also survived by one brother, Herb (Glenna) Knape and brother-in-law, John Smolenski; many nieces and nephews; as well as special friends, Tom and Mickie Fox and Gloria Webster. She was preceded in death by two loving daughters: Janet Smolenski in 2004 and JoAnne Smolenski in 2011.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Tony Vainavicz officiating. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 PM Monday, October 13, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM and visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Millie may be given to KANDU or St. Patrick-St. Anthony Capital Campaign.
