Mirta Nora Chavez's Obituary
Mrs. Mirta Nora Chavez, age 87, passed away in Muskegon on Thursday, May 16, 2024. She was born in Reynosa Tamaulipas, Mexico on September 12, 1936 to Manuel and Aurelia (Gutierrez) Delafuente. Mirta moved to the United States when she was in her 20’s. She married Elverto Chavez on May 21, 1973 and they lived most of their married life in Michigan. Mirta spent several years working for farming labor camps in Lakeview, Edmore, and Greenville Michigan. She then was employed for over 20 years at Mercy Hospital prior to her retirement in 2008. Mirta enjoyed gardening, sewing, and in her younger years, was a horse jockey. She was a member of Shoreline Church of Christ. Mirta is survived by her husband, Elverto; daughter, Alma Perez; granddaughter, Arianna (Deondre L. Wilson Jr.) Perez; great-grandchildren, Amira N. Perez-Wilson, Gianna R. Perez-Wilson, and Dionisio L. Perez-Wilson; brothers, Jose Luis Delafuente, Teodoro Delafuente, Epifanio Delafuente, and Arnulfo Delafuente; and sisters, Olga Delafuente, Josefa Delafuente, and Maria Concepcion Delafuente. SERVICES will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Shoreline Church of Christ (525 W. Barney Ave., Muskegon, MI 49444). VISITATION will be one hour prior to her service.
