Miyako Adams' Obituary
Miyako Adams, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 15, 1933, to Tsunekichi and Teru Kawashima in Okawa Village, of Japan. She graduated from Okawa Shofu High School class of 1950. She married John Adams on March 8, 1955, in Yokohama, Japan. Miyako made her way to the United States at the early age of 22 coming to San Antonio, TX. She eventually found her way to Muskegon, Michigan, calling it home for many years. In 1963, together they cherished one daughter, Telko. John preceded her in death on November 10, 1975. Miyako was a proud mother and homemaker and took pride in her flourishing garden. She enjoyed sewing and had a passion for cooking. Miyako was known for having a kind and generous nature, who always exuded happiness to those around her. She was loved by everyone and left a lasting impression on so many with her tender-loving and sweet spirit that had just the right amount of kick. Miyako aka Granny will be truly missed by so many!
She is survived by her daughter, Telko (Sam) Cunningham; two grandchildren, Gregory (Kelma) Adams and Aziza Cunningham; two great-grandchildren, Ali, and Amir Adams; one brother; one sister; one special daughter, Valerie Hernandez and her children, Raphael, Cedrick and Derron Hernandez. A special thanks to Randy Adams for always checking in on your auntie!
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Fumiko Kawashima. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday April 9, 2024, at 11:00 am at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
