Monique F. Kahrs' Obituary
Mrs. Monique F. Kahrs, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Norton Shores on Friday, September 24, 2021. She was born in Cauderan (Bordeaux), France on May 30, 1938 to Raymond and Claudine (Greaves) Pon. Monique met an American soldier, Wayne S. Kahrs, on a blind date and they fell in love and were married on June 6, 1959. They moved to Muskegon and started their family. Monique was employed by Mona Shores Public Schools as a Para Pro for 22 years prior to her retirement in 1996. She was a member of First Congregational Church. Monique enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, and was a gourmet French cook. Most importantly, she loved her family and especially cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wayne; three children, Patty (Jamal) Abdelkader, Alan (Robyn) Kahrs, and Karen (Bob) Filka; four grandchildren, David (Stacey) Abdelkader, Lauren (Chanel O’Brien) Abdelkader, Justin (Anna) Kahrs, and Christopher (Ellie) Kahrs; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Kadin, and Senna; four brothers, Patrick (Annie) Pon, Bernard Pon, Yannick (Marie-France) Pon, and Didier (Pierrette) Pon; two sisters, Any-France Perrin and Martine (Mario) Senecal; many dear nieces and nephews; and all of Wayne’s loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jean-Michel Pon; sister-in-law, Niki Pon; and brother-in-law, Marcel Perrin. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with Rev. Timothy VanderHaar officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to her service.
