Morris S. Barnes' Obituary
Morris Barnes 89, passed on Friday, April 27, 2012, was born March 28, 1923, in McDonough, New York, son of Harold and Elma Sherman Barnes. Graduated from Norwich High School, class of 1941. Married his wife Marjorie F. Wolfe in Norfolk, Virginia 1945. Moved to Muskegon in 1946 and graduated from Muskegon Business College 1951. A veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII in the Mediterranean, and called back to service for the Korean Conflict. He then served in both the Navy Reserve and Army Reserve, retiring in 1983. Morris was employed by Muskegon Hardware & Supply Co. of Muskegon; E.I. DuPont de Nemours of Montague; Bofors Nobel Chemical Co. of Muskegon, from which he retired in 1984. Post retirement employment included Kirby Service Center of Kentwood, Michigan, and Avis Car Rental of Grand Rapids. Morris is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Muskegon; daughter: Barbara Hand (Henry) of Lilburn, Georgia, Sons: Donald (Deborah) of The Villages, Florida; Richard (friend Penny Olson) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; David (Cindy) of Kentwood, Michigan. Brothers: Harold Jr. (Doris) of Plymouth, New York; Richard (Marilyn) of Cortland, New York; Donald (Annamae) of Bow, New Hampshire; and sister, Margaret Murtaugh of San Antonio, Texas. Sister, Shirley Murtaugh preceded Morris in death in 2010. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11AM Monday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 with Rev. Diane L. Gordon officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 5-7PM Sunday. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family asks in lieu of flowers that a contribution be made in his name to Harbor Hospice, The American Heart Association, or Central United Methodist Church.
