Morris R. "Morrie" Thompson's Obituary
Morris R. “Morrie” Thompson, age 92, met his Lord and Savior early Thursday, December 10, 2020. He was born on September 16, 1928 to George and Alma (Carlson) Thompson in Muskegon, MI. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church. Morrie was a dedicated employee at DTE energy where he worked for at least 30 years in the service department. On January 22, 1949 he married the love of his life Bette Dawson in Muskegon, MI. Together they cherished 67 years of memories filled with love and laughter. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2016. Morris was a man of many talents and had a way of fixing just about anything, but it had to be done the “old-school” way. He was a baseball fanatic and an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He was always on everyone’s radar around town when he was out for a cruise on his moped. He also loved to travel with his wife, Bette; they took many adventures enjoying the U.S. together for the beauty it had to offer. Morris took pride in being a grandpa and truly enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren’s lives. The afternoon trips to the lake will always be near and dear memories to many. He was an outgoing and fun-loving man who had a fashion for funky socks. His vivacious and tender-loving soul will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his 4 children, Dan (Deb) Thompson, Morris “Rick” Thompson, Tom (Pam) Thompson and Lisa (Scott) Sabin; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Bette Thompson; 2 sisters, Lorraine (Mel) Culter and Ardis (John) Poort; and brother, George (Gilda) Thompson. A private family service will be held. Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, 49444. A burial will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Morrie’s honor can be made direct to Trinity Lutheran Church.
