Morris C. Deater's Obituary
Mr. Morris C. Deater, age 88, passed away Sunday evening, June 6, 2010 at his home in Norton Shores, MI. He was born in Muskegon, MI on May 1, 1922 to Harvey and Hazel (Johnson) Deater and was a life resident of the area. Mr. Deater was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII as a Military Policeman. After his service to his country, he worked as a Regional Sales Representative for General Foods and then became the Director of Sales at Fleet Engineers before retiring in 1987. After his retirement, he turned his passion, working with acrylics, into a career. He started Classi Acrylics and designed and produced custom acrylics including sports memorabilia cases and USGA approved golf clubs. Mr. Deater was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church and a life-long member of the Viking Linne’ Lodge #57 where he had been in charge of the golf league since 1987 and often shared his love of big band music. On January 10, 1944 in Liberal, KS, Morris married the former Elsie L. Wallerstrom and she survives him along with 4 children, Deater O’Neill (Mike Crotty), Kaye (Dwight) Hamilton, Laura (Gary) Ayers and Thomas (Elizabeth) Deater; 7 grandchildren, Heather (Alex), Jennifer (Patrick), Bryon (Cassie), Alex, Matthew, Scott and Luke; 3 great-grandchildren, Ayden, Jacob and Landon Romeo and 1 brother, Rev. Harvey (Trudy) Deater, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Betty Deater and 1 brother, Jack Deater. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 11:00 AM Friday at Samuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Marcy Miller officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS in Mr. Deater’s name may be made to the Viking Scholarship Fund – Linne’ Lodge #57 or Harbor Hospice of Muskegon.
