Mr. Arthur Peter "Stub" Thorsen's Obituary
Mr. Arthur Peter “Stub” Thorsen, age 86, passed away Friday morning, July 2, 2010 at his home. He was born in Muskegon, MI on September 7, 1923 to Peter and Bertha Thorsen and was a life resident of the area. Mr. Thorsen had worked at Brunswick Corporation for 33 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a veteran of the United States Navy having served on three ships during WWII; the Kilauea, Philadelphia and USS Anthony. He was honorably discharged as a 2nd Class Machinist Mate after 6 proud years of service. He loved his country, his God and his family. On December 31, 1981, he married the former Irma Jean Gibson and she survives him along with 5 step-children, Dennis (Pat) Thompson, Lin (Greg) Olsen of VA, Jane (Mike Polack) Wilson, Patti (Mike) Melvin and Peggy Sue McCarthy; 11 step-grandchildren, Kelci and Ryan Thompson, Brandon and Benjamin Olsen, Donna (Chad) Primmer, Stacey and Brett Melvin, Peter (Amanda), Adam, Kylee Jean and Dillon McCarthy; 5 step-great-grandchildren, Kristian, Jared and Rachel Primmer and Chloe and Olivia McCarthy; 2 brothers, Richard (Shirley) Thorsen and Donald Thorsen and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Paul Thorsen and 4 sisters, Shirley Vargo, Evelyn Ferro, Elsie Hoffman and Frances Thorsen. SERVICES will be 11:00AM Wednesday at Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Zager officiating. VISITATION will be from 5:00-8:00PM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100. INTERMENT will be in Holton Cemetery. MEMORIALS in Stub’s name may be made to Holton Lutheran Church or Harbor Hospice.
