Mr. Berton G. Reed's Obituary
Mr. Berton G. Reed, age 80, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 at his home. He was born in Elkhart, IN on August 10, 1931 to Burton and Martha (Gibbs) Reed. Mr. Reed was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed as an inspector at Continental Motors for 26 years before retiring in 1977. Mr. Reed was a member of Central Assembly of God, was a volunteer counselor at Teen Challenge and volunteered at Hope Lighthouse Food Pantry. He loved gardening and taking long walks with his wife and special dog, Shaggy. Mr. Reed also enjoyed riding his horse, Cheeka, whom he raised and trained, and later went on to win National awards. Most importantly, he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. On July 2, 1955, Berton married the former Lois J. Nelund and she survives him along with their children, Theresa (Steve) Patterson, Candice (Thomas) Cannon, Jeff (Melynda) Reed, Julie (Chuck) Bosch and Jerry (Sherry) Reed; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one sister, Bonnie Schmiedeknecht. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roger Reed. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 11:00AM Friday at Central Assembly of God with Dr. Thomas Cannon and Dr. Gordon Aikin officiating. VISITATION will be from 5-8PM Thursday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100. MEMORIALS to Teen Challenge would be appreciated. INURNMENT will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
