Mr. Darl Elester Staley's Obituary
Mr. Darl Elester Staley, age 97, passed away Sunday morning, January 18, 2009. He was born in Curtis, MI on April 6, 1911 to Burton and Bertha (Mowry) Staley. On June 8, 1937, Darl married the former Kathleen Lagerman and she preceded him in death on August 9, 1990. Darl was Captain at Central Fire Station in Muskegon. He joined the fire department in 1937 and retired on July 1, 1966. He then became Safety Director for the State of Michigan out of Muskegon Regional Center. Darl was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Unit Flotilla 7 and the National Guard. He was the manager of the City of Muskegon Municipal Credit Union and was the past president of the Muskegon Metropolitan Club and the Fireman’s Union of Muskegon. Darl served on the Downtown Development Committee and was and Ambassador of the Muskegon County Community Foundation. He loved to hunt, fish, camp and boat. Mr. Staley was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen; his parents; his brother, Chester Staley and his sister, Juanita Jorgenson.
