Mr. David B. Yerkie's Obituary
Mr. David B. Yerkie, age 58, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 02, 2011 after a brief but courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in Muskegon on December 20, 1952 to Bernie and Margaret (Hoppa) Yerkie, was raised in Muskegon and has lived most of his adult life in Spring Lake. Dave graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1971 and Taylor University in 1975 where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business. On August 16, 1974, Dave married his best friend, the former Karen S. Dykstra. He owned and operated Dykstra Floor Covering for 35 years which he bought from his father-in-law, Pete Dykstra, in 1980. Following that he continued working in the flooring industry for Carpet Bonanza in Zeeland and also in franchise development for Marco’s Pizza. Dave was a member of Berean Church. He loved singing, golfing and hunting. Some of Dave’s fondest memories were the times he spent attending numerous sporting events with his daughter, Joy and watching the sunset at the family’s home in Pentwater with his wife, Karen. She survives him along with their daughter, Joy Yerkie; his mom, Margaret Yerkie; one brother, Daniel Yerkie; one sister, Janet (David) Patton; his mother-in-law, Hazel Dykstra; one brother-in-law, Tim (Rosaura) Dykstra; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernie Yerkie; father-in-law, Pete Dykstra and niece, Amanda Patton. A CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at Berean Church (635 Seminole Rd.) with Pastor Craig Apel officiating. VISITATION will be from 5-8PM Friday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 and 1 hour prior to the service at church. MEMORIALS to Berean Church Memorial Fund or Grace Adventures – Youth Camp would be appreciated.
