Mr. Dennis Lachniet's Obituary
Mr. Dennis “Denny” Lachniet, age 86, passed away Friday evening, March 26, 2010 in Whitehall. He was born in Grand Rapids on July 23, 1923 to Herman and Pauline (Sinke) Lachniet and had lived in Norton Shores since 1986. Mr. Lachniet was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the infantry and as Military Police during WWII. He had been employed by Allied Finishing before retiring in 1991 as plant manager. Mr. Lachniet was a board member at Christian Care and was a member of Westwood Reformed Church where he served as elder, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, biking and woodworking. On May 8, 1943, Denny married the former Shirley May Westveer in Grand Rapids, and she preceded him in death on July 17, 1990. He then married Marjorie Rykse Schneider on October 26, 2002 in Muskegon and she survives him along with four children, Dr. Scott (Donna) Lachniet of Norton Shores, Kathleen Lachniet of Grand Rapids, Denise Lachniet of Norton Shores and Barbara (Walter) Pickett of Lakewood, CA; three step-children, Susan Leister of Muskegon, Jeffrey Schneider of North Muskegon and Laurel (Dan) Shugars of Shelby; two grandchildren, David (Katie) Lachniet of Mishawaka, IN and Andrea (Tad) Dykstra of Rockford; one great-grandson, Landon Lachniet; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two sisters, Teresa (Irwin) DeRuischer of Grand Rapids and Alice Lachniet of Grand Rapids. In addition to his first wife, Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herman and Cornelius “Casey” Lachniet and three sisters, Elizabeth Jonker, Margaret Brondsema and Connie McKay. SERVICES will be 11:00a.m. Wednesday at Westwood Reformed Church (3025 Glenside Blvd.) with Rev. Scott VanArendonk officiating. VISITATION will be 6:00-8:00p.m. Tuesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 and one hour prior to the service Wednesday.
