Mr. Frederick James Mayo, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Frederick James Mayo, Sr., age 92, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 3, 2009 in the presence of his family. He was born in Muskegon on December 5, 1916 to Alonzo and Philura (Cottrill) Mayo and had lived in the area his entire life. Fred had been employed by Brunswick Corporation for 38 years before his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Civil Conservation Corp, FOE Aerie 2106, American Federation of Musicians Local 252, retired Member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and a member of the VFW Dads Auxiliary Post #446. Fred was a Muskegon area musician for 77 years. He taught music, played music in many different venues, was a former member of the Mayo’s Plus One, the Delta Rhythm Trio and the West Michigan Banjo Club, and overall, truly loved music. On May 25, 1940, Fred married the former Mercedes Brouhard in Muskegon, MI and she preceded him in death on March 13, 1989. He is survived by his 2 children, Kay Mayo and Fredrick “Jim” (Linda) Mayo, Jr.; 2 grandchildren, Trisha Mayo and James Mayo; 3 great grandchildren, Latia (Jordan) Willis, Micah (Summer) Clanton and Eric Clanton; 2 brothers, Floyd (Eleanor) Mayo and John Mayo; 1 sister, Margaret Westfall; many nieces, nephews and friends in the Muskegon and Ruby Creek Area. In addition to his wife, Fred was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Donald, Milton and Douglas Mayo and 1 sister, Ethel Wood. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 1PM Monday at
