Mr. Gordon A. Nellis' Obituary
Mr. Gordon A. Nellis, age 90, passed away Sunday morning under a beautiful Autumn sky, November 7, 2010 in Muskegon. He was born September 11, 1920 to Archie P. and Louise (Smith) Nellis in Muskegon, and lived almost all of his life here. Gordon was a WWII U.S. Air Force veteran, was retired from Baldwin Heating and Cooling, and was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. On December 27, 1941 he married Ann L. Kanitz, and she preceded him in death on March 5, 2002. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Gordy (Kay) Nellis of Hudsonville, Marie Thiel of Muskegon; 2 grandsons, Adam and Taylor Nellis, both of Hudsonville; 1 brother, Joseph Nellis (special friend, Joyce Quirk) of Belleville; former sister-in-law, Roberta (Bobbi) Nellis of Ypsilanti; 1 sister, Lois Moore of St. Augustine, FL. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Warren. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Marian Chapel, with the Rev. Fr. Philip J. Salmonowicz presiding. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. (231) 759-8565 will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday, with the Rosary prayed at 6:00 PM. Visitation will also be 1 hour prior to the service at church.
