Mr. Joseph Robert Brunais' Obituary
Mr. Joseph Robert Brunais, age 88, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Muskegon. He was born in Manistee, MI on October 18, 1923 to Joseph Francis and Ivy (Cole) Brunais. Mr. Brunais was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp and served in WWII. After serving his country, he returned to Michigan and began working at Sealed Power where he continued to work as a tool and die maker until retiring in 1988. He also co-owned Intricate Grinding and Machine Specialties and after retiring, owned and operated Country Gardens Greenhouse. Mr. Brunais was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and VFW Post #7729. He was outgoing and enjoyed life, and continued to fill himself with as much knowledge and research as possible. Mr. Brunais was athletic and loved to play tennis, bowl, box and run. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. On August 25, 1945, Joseph married the former Vera Lillian Allsop and she preceded him in death in 1988. He then married the former Peggy (Marriot) Allsop on February 24, 1989 and she survives him along with 4 children, Susan (Lyle) Cady, Joseph J. (Mary) Brunais, Dorothy (Larry) Weaver and Richard (Adrena) Brunais; 4 step-children, Steve (Jackie) Allsop, Teresa (Joe) Anderson, Yvonne (Tom) Root and David (Shelly) Allsop; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Harlan and Phillip Brunais and 6 sisters, Edna Stringham, Adelle Maksimowicy, Judy (Phil) Fieger, Mellisa Lee, Audrey Brunais and Joan Thompson. In addition to this first wife, Vera, Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; 1 daughter, Barbara Jean Brunais and 1 brother, Frank Brunais. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be 4:00PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 with Rev. Julie Winklepleck officiating. VISITATION will be from 5-8PM this evening and 1 hour prior to the service. INTERMENT will be in Oakwood Cemetery. MEMORIALS to Michigan Arthritis Foundation would be appreciated.
