Mr. Paul Arthur Goranson, Sr.'s Obituary
On the evening of August 25, 2008, Mr. Paul A. Goranson, Sr. passed away with his family by his side. He was born March 22, 1912 in Muskegon. He married Catherine E. Schrebe on July 24, 1933 and she preceded him in death on December 26, 1981. Paul retired from Bennett Pumps in 1977. He was a member of Muskegon Elks Lodge #274 and was a Life Member of the Muskegon Eagles Aerie #668. Paul was a lifetime bowler, taught by his father, starting at the age of 12 and continued bowling into his senior years. On November 16, 1948, Paul bowled his 300 game. In 1949, he was honored as “Bowler of the Year”. Paul, along with four other bowlers, was the first to be inducted into the new Greater Muskegon Bowlers Hall of Fame for his many achievements. Paul had a large family of 4 boys and 3 girls, of which the eldest son, Paul A. Goranson, Jr. passed away June 2, 2000. He leaves as survivors, Evelyn Smith of Norton Shores, Lois (Marty) Gibbs of Fruitport, Kay (Larry) Alsgaard of Grand Rapids, David (Sue) Goranson of Muskegon, Jerry Goranson of Muskegon Heights, and Larry (Laurie) Goranson of Wasilla, Alaska; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and son, he was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ablin and Orpha Beana (Bertelson) Goranson; 4 sisters and 1 brother. SERVICES will be 11AM Friday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 with Rev. Gerald Hagans officiating. VISITATION will be from 3-5 & 7-9PM Thursday. INTERMENT will take place in Norton Cemetery. MEMORIALS in Mr. Goranson’s name may be made to American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
