Dick was one of the best people I have ever met and I feel so lucky to have been one of his teachers. He inspired me and helped me become a better teacher. He was my first principal way back in 1964 in the Reeths-Puffer system. We had so much fun. He always had that laugh that was infectious to everyone around him. He brought a lot of joy to so many people. I have so many memories as I know you do. Blessings to all his family. I wish I was closer to give you a hug and help send Dick off properly. Love,

I think Dick should receive a medal of honnor for having kept so many women smiling. Nothing but great reports on how he worked so well in the school system. Joel and Kay##imported-begin##Joel & Kay Vander Wall##imported-end##
Mr. Howe was the principal at Campbell when I attended elementary school. He was a kind man, caring and careful with his young charges. Rest in peace, Mr. Howe and thank you so very much.##imported-begin##Gretchen Sietsema##imported-end##
I have very fond memories of Mr. Howe as both my elementary school prinicpal and friend of our family. Picturing him with his mustached grin always maks me smile. My thoughts go out to his family.##imported-begin##Jill "Vander Scheer" Kanowith##imported-end##
Dear Mary Ann and Family, Sheila and I send our deepest sympathy. You are in our thoughts. Thinking of Rich always brings a smile as we hear his laughter and remember the things that made him laugh. We remember, too, how he contributed his views from "outside the box" for the betterment, we think, of those who were trapped within. As an educator he challenged, led and followed. As a person he was kind, always positive and sometimes irreverent and a little profane (when the occasion required). We loved him.##imported-begin##Roy and Sheila Vander Scheer##imported-end##
What memories and legacy you must have to follow in the wake of such a giving, loving man--one with a beautiful smile.##imported-begin##Jacque Tomasiewicz##imported-end##
MaryAnn and Family,
I just heard about Dick's passing. Linda and I extend our sympathies. Dick and I worked together in Spring Lake and Mona Shores. Mona Shores was my first administrative position and Dick took me under his wing and made sure I didn't make to many mistakes. I remember vividly, any time I came across a situation or problem that I was unsure of what action I should take,I turned to Dick. He was my mentor in every sense of the word. Each time we explored an issue I had to deal with, whether it was parents, students or staff, my admiration and respect for Dick increased. When Dick and I had the rare occasion to go to lunch together and talk about improving the operations of the school where we worked, the teacher would see Dick drop me off and openly wonder "what have those two come up with now?" I always enjoyed the idea that I was considered a peer of Dick Howe. Even I retirement, when recalling some of the highlights of my career with contemporaries, Dick's creative ideas and solutions are some of my favorite stories. I still use some of the strategies he taught me in dealing with adults. He is still an influence in my life. We also had some great times playing tennis and going tubing. I will never Dick Howe and his positive influence on my career and life.
With regards,
