...West Michigan will miss "Mr. Wilhelm"...even when I would skip his class at Muskegon High School for an afternoon of fishing, he'd ask; "did you catch anything worth bringing home?" ...to say Mr. Wilhelm was the last of the great ones would be a gross understatement. As a former student at St. Fidelis, I knew Dick as Fr. Wilfred. He was a fabulous teacher and great mentor. I looked forward to his sermons and lectures. My deepest condolences to his family.

The Muskegon Family YMCA has lost a dear friend. Richard was always willing to give of his time to help with YMCA special events whenever asked. If we didn't ask him, he always called us to offer his help.
YMCA employee and close friend to Richard, Mr. (Pastor) Bass, nicknamed Richard "Dad" a few years ago,and it stuck. We all called him "Dad". He was like a caring parent to all of us; often surprising the staff with lunch, an afternoon cup of coffee and snack, or just some sound advise. Oh how we already miss hearing the words, "here comes dad", as he walked up the walkway entering the YMCA for his daily visits. Someone recently said, "They don't make them like him anymore." What a fitting description. I knew exactly what she meant....caring, honesty, sincerity, consistency....we could always count on Richard. We will miss you so very much "Dad".
