Mr. Robert E. Oberg's Obituary
Mr. Robert “Bob” E. Oberg, age 92, went home to be with his Lord, “who cared for him throughout his lifetime,” after a long illness, on November 3, 2010 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, MI. Mr. Oberg was born in Manistique, MI on March 16, 1918 to Karl Joshua, an immigrant to America in 1907, and Anna E. (Leaf) Oberg. He was a WWII veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army for three years and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Following his military service, he resided in Detroit and graduated from the evening program at Detroit Bible Institute. In 1962 he relocated to Muskegon, MI where he resided for 47 years. Mr. Oberg was employed as an auditor for the U.S. Treasury Department for 21 years, retiring in 1981. He was married to Roma E. (Bergman) Oberg on August 1, 1942 in Gulliver, MI. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2004. He was an active member of Sheridan Drive Baptist Church for many years, teaching Sunday school and serving as a Deacon and as treasurer. Mr. Oberg is SURVIVED by his children, Janell (Robert) Mills of Woodbridge, VA, Rev. Brian (Ellen) Oberg of Marquette, MI and Cheryl (John) Morris of Carol Stream, IL; 6 grandchildren, Derek Mills, Bethany, Janae and Alisa Morris, and Joy and Jay Oberg; one brother, Gordon Oberg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Carl Oberg and his sister, Evelyn Meyer. VISITATION will be at from 1:30 to 5:30 PM on 11/7/2010 at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be held on 11/8/2010 at 1:00 PM at Sheridan Drive Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Rumley officiating. Interment will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
