Mrs. Dorothy Bouwman's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Bouwman, age 88, passed away Sunday, Mother’s Day morning, May 8, 2011 in Muskegon. She was born in Muskegon on January 22, 1923 to Alfred and Alina (Hendrickson) Mattfolk and was a life resident of the area. After attending Muskegon High School, Dorothy married Elmer Mattila and they had two daughters before Elmer was killed in Germany during WWII. She then married Christian Bouwman and they had two daughters. Dorothy was a dedicated worker and had been employed at different dental offices as a receptionist and dental assistant before retiring at the age of 78. She was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church, enjoyed baking Swedish bread and playing cards. Most importantly, Dorothy loved her family. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and their activities, and enjoyed having them over for lunches and dinners. She is survived by her four daughters, Sandra (Jim) O’Neil, Mary (Bob) Dawson, Diane (Dan) Mergener, Shelley (Pete) Palmer; 6 grandchildren, Kris (Jim) McKinley, Scott (Beth) O’Neil, Steve (Jen) Gwinnup, Stacey Gwinnup, Kevin Gwinnup and Cara (Ben) Lawrie; 7 great-grandchildren and one brother, Carl (Phyllis) Mattfolk. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Joel Mattfolk. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Samuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Lewis Glick officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS to Samuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the American Heart Association would be appreciated. Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
