Mrs. Dorothy J. Smith's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy J. Smith, 88, passed away early Tuesday morning in Spring Lake. Born Oct. 1, 1921 in Fremont to Leonard and Gertie (Boeskool) Pikaart, she came to Muskegon as a child. She married George A. Smith on January 28, 1942. She worked as a Nurses Aide at Hackley Hospital; moved to California in 1965 and retired from Hollywood (CA) Community Hospital as a Licensed Vocational Nurse after 22 years. She then moved to Grand Haven in 1990. Mrs. Smith was a member of Hope Reformed Church of Grand Haven. Her SURVIVORS include her children: Larry (Barbara) Smith of Lubbock, TX, Richard (Josie) Smith of Canoga Park, CA, Douglas (Donna) Smith of Hemet, CA, and Judy (Neil) McCallum of Fruitport; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers: Melvin (Darlene) Pikaart of Muskegon and Lester (Evelyn) Pikaart of Sweet Home, OR; and a sister, Lorraine Near of St. Petersburg, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; a great-granddaughter, Crystal; brothers Delbert and Merton Pikaart; and sisters Phyllis Walker, Florence Medema, and Geraldine Wever. FUNERAL SERVICES for Mrs. Smith will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday at Hope Reformed Church, 14932 Mercury Drive, Grand Haven with Rev. Arnold VanBeek officiating and interment in Fruitport Cemetery. VISITATION will be 6-8 P.M. Thursday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S.
