Mrs. Ellen Doris Ryke's Obituary
Mrs. Ellen Doris Ryke , age 81, passed away early Saturday, June 18, 2011. Ellen was born April 17, 1930 to Ben and Lucy (Jonker) Terpstra in Grand Rapids, MI. She received her education degree from Western Michigan University. On July 7, 1960 she married Henry C. Ryke in Grand Rapids. Ellen was a member of the Berean Church where she had taught Sunday School, and taught and supported Child Evangelism. Ellen had a love for the children at Quail Meadows. She was also a member of the Gideon Auxiliary. Ellen had been a teacher in Grand Rapids and for the Muskegon Public Schools as well as office manager for Ryke’s Bakery prior to her retirement. Most of all, she was a wonderful wife and mother. Ellen is survived by her husband of 50 years, Henry; 2 sons, James Ryke of Twin Lake, MI and David (Darci) Ryke of Battle Creek, MI; a granddaughter, Rebecca Huston; 3 brothers, Vern (Bonnie) Terpstra of Ann Arbor, MI, Gene (Jackie) Terpstra of Pasadena, CA, and David Terpstra of Grand Rapids, MI; a sister, Joan (Doug) Anderson of Orange City, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her son Daniel on June 9, 2001, and her parents. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11AM Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Berean Church (635 Seminole) with Pastor Craig Apel and Pastor Dwight Reed co-officiating. VISITATION will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes Inc. 737 Apple Ave 231-726-5210 and one hour prior to the service (10-11AM) at the Church. Interment will be in Laketon Township Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Grace Adventures, Child Evangelism Fellowship or Teen Challenge.
