Mrs. Eloise H. Orton's Obituary
Mrs. Eloise H. Orton, age 99, passed away Monday, August 15, 2005 at her residence in Spring Lake. She was born in Antwerd, OH on June 13, 1906 to Samuel L. and Maud M. (Miller) Harris. Prior to moving to Michigan in 2004, she lived in Indianapolis, IN. Mrs. Orton was employed by Indianapolis Public Schools for several years as a teacher. She was a member of Irvington Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis where she was a deacon and elder. Eloise was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter DS of Spring Lake and was the past President of the Music Study Club of Indianapolis. She loved to read, garden, and travel. On August 20, 1932, in New York City, NY, she married Richard S. Orton, and he preceded her in death on June 16, 1983. She is also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen (William G.) Miller of Muskegon; 2 grandchildren, William H. (Debbie) Jellema III of Montague and Jane Elizabeth (Chris) Weatherford of Grand Rapids; 1 great-granddaughter, Steffanie A. Jellema; and 1 cousin, Richard (Leona) Converse of Corvallis, OR. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 11AM Saturday, August 20, 2005 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Fr. John David officiating. In lieu of flowers, MEMORIALS may be made to St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church or to the Steffanie Jellema Scholarship Fund.
