Mrs. Gudrun E. Marcotty's Obituary
Gudrun Marcotty, 86, died Oct 19 at her home in Muskegon Mich. She was born and raised in Stuttgart Germany, and after World War II attended medical school in Freiberg, Ger. In 1952 she emigrated to the United States with her husband, Dr. Andreas Marcotty, to start the first of many new lives she would make for herself during her lifetime. They lived in Boston, MA., Providence, R.I. and Manhattan, KS. before moving to Birmingham, MI in 1960, where they lived for forty years. She raised four children and many dogs in the house she loved on Orchard Lane. After her husband died in 2000 she acquired a masters degree in addiction counseling at the age of 77, and worked as a therapist in Birmingham. Four years ago she moved to Muskegon to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Katrina and Bruce Olson. She made many new friends in Muskegon through her volunteer work at the Hackley Life Clinic and the Muskegon Art Museum, and loved to walk in the woods and the beach. She was a woman of grace and great courage, especially in the last year of her life. Her gift for starting anew taught many to aspire to greater adventure and achievement in their own lives. She is survived by four children, three children-in law, seven grand children and the last of her beloved dogs, Ducé. A service for her will be held Nov. 13 from 2-4 p.m. at her home. Memorials should be sent to the Muskegon Art Museum in her name.
