Mrs. LaVerle Gilmore's Obituary
Mrs. LaVerle Gilmore, age 89, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 in Muskegon. She was born in Walkerville, MI on April 8, 1922 to William and Edna (Thompson) Shaffer, moved to Muskegon as a child and attended Muskegon Heights High School. Mrs. Gilmore had worked at Keefe’s Pharmacy for many years before her retirement. She was an active member of Fruitland Covenant Church, was active in the community with numerous youth organizations, and enjoyed making and giving away cards. On January 24, 1946, LaVerle married Joseph C. Gilmore, Sr. and he survives her along with 3 children, Nancy (Ken) VanDyke, Joseph (Cam) Gilmore, Jr. and William (Ruth) Gilmore; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Dale (Nelda) Shaffer; 1 sister, Orlea Christiansen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Lynn Gilmore; her parents and 1 brother, Donald Shaffer. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Friday at Fruitland Covenant Church (4283 N. Weber Rd.) with Rev. Brian Kyle officiating. VISITATION will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210. INTERMENT will be in Fruitland Township Cemetery. MEMORIALS to the Fruitland Covenant Church Building Fund would be appreciated.
