Mrs. Maria Christina "Marie" Nielsen's Obituary
Maria Christina “Marie” Nielsen, age 91, passed away Monday, December 17, 2007 at her home in Muskegon. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI on December 22, 1915 to Joseph and Martina (Rink) DeKoning and had been a resident of Muskegon for most of her life. She had worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Bradshaw for 25 years and then under Dr. Amos before retiring in 1980. Marie had been actively involved in the Medical Assistants Association where she had served as past president. She was a long-time member of the Viking Lodge and was an avid bowler. On August 18, 1934, Marie married James Gordon Nielsen, Sr. and they were married for 57 years before he passed away on October 23, 1991. She is survived by 2 children, James (Ruth) Nielsen, Jr. and Lorraine (Lawrence) Eikenberry; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 step brother, James Beugalink. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, Sr.; her daughter, Nancy Carlson; grandson, Steve Nielsen; and 2 son-in-laws, Darwin and Richard. SERVICES will be 11AM Thursday at Lakeside United Methodist Church with Rev. David A. Selleck officiating. VISITATION will be 1 hour prior the service at church. INTERMENT will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. MEMORIALS in Mrs. Nielsen’s name may be made to the Viking Scholarship Fund or Lakeside UMC Memorial Fund.
