Mrs. Marilyn E. Freeman's Obituary
Mrs. Marilyn E. Freeman, age 65, passed away Monday evening, December 27, 2010 in Muskegon. She was born in Muskegon on June 6, 1945 to Hugh and Ginnette (Barger) Rea and was a life resident of the area. Mrs. Freeman received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education from Grand Valley State University. She taught kindergarten and second grade at Pennsylvania Elementary Schools before becoming principal and retiring in 2001 from Twin Lake Elementary School. She was an active member of Forest Park Covenant Church and Renovate Church where she was active in small groups and singing with the worship team. Mrs. Freeman was a member of the Woman’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce, the Muskegon Garden Club, a book club and two Bible studies. She was an advocate for early childhood development and was a member of MEMSPA – Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association. On November 28, 1964, Marilyn married Charles Freeman in Muskegon, MI and he survives her along with their two sons, Justin C. (Heather) Freeman and Hunter L. Freeman; two grandsons, Spencer Logan Freeman and Cooper Charles Freeman; her mother, Ginnette Rea-Hallead; her step-father, Gale Hallead; her brother, Hugh H. (Linda) Rea; one niece, Erin J. Rea and one nephew, Brian D. Rea. She was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Rea. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Forest Park Covenant Church (3815 Henry Street) with Rev. Russ Carlson and Rev. Dave Diller officiating. VISITATION will be from 5 – 8 PM Thursday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100. INURNMENT will be in Norton Cemetery. MEMORIALS in Marilyn’s name to Forest Park or Renovate Church would be appreciated.
