Mrs. Waltraut E. "Wally" Thoens' Obituary
Mrs. Waltraut E. “Wally” Thoens, age 81, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at her home. She was born on April 12, 1929 in Kyritz, Germany to Walter and Hildegard Klein and had moved with her family to the United States in 1957. Mrs. Thoens had worked as a tailor for Miletich’s Tailoring and Friend’s Suburban Room before retiring in 1991. She was a member of McGraft Memorial Congregational Church where she was active in Bible Study and different Women’s organizations. Mrs. Thoens enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, reading and most importantly, loved her family and lived for her granddaughters. On May 26, 1951, Waltraut married Willy W. Thoens in Nauen, Germany and together they shared 42 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on June 5, 1993. She is survived by her daughter, Bärbel (Mahmood) Thoens-Masghati of Naperville, IL; 3 granddaughters, Monique A. Masghati, Negeen E. Masghati, Sonya D. Masghati; half-sister, Dorle Klein of Berlin, Germany; sister-in-law, Waltraud Klein of Berlin Germany; four nieces, Ines (Juergen) Arndt of Germany, Margrit (Bruno) Siegenthaler-Guidolin of Switzerland, Noreen Sauceda and Tana Wonak of the United States and three nephews, Frank Klein of Germany, Richard Lieb and Lonnie Lieb of the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Herbert Klein and Ernst Lieb. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at McGraft Memorial Congregational Church (1617 Palmer Ave.) with Brian Seeley, MG officiating. VISITATION will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100. INTERMENT will be in Oakwood Cemetery. MEMORIALS to the Lupus Foundation of America or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
