Murdock H. "Mert" Mills' Obituary
Murdock “Mert” H. Mills, a life-long Muskegon resident, passed away peacefully on March 04, 2024. He was born on July 5, 1933, to Evelyn (Shepard) and George A. Mills. Mert met his wife, Mary (Grindahl), while serving in the US Navy and they were married on November 10, 1954, in St. Mary’s County, MD.
Upon returning to Muskegon, he became a successful businessman in manufacturing and his companies’ products can be seen on buildings and golf courses across the globe.
In addition to his entrepreneurial spirit, Mert had many personal hobbies throughout his life, including being an avid golfer, obtaining his pilot’s license, shooting pool, and creating beautiful stained-glass pieces.
Above all else, Mert was a proud and supportive husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family dearly and he leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories.
He is survived by his daughter, Susanne (Mills) Kebler; grandchildren, Stephanie (Adam) Connor and Michael (Sarah) Kebler; 4 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Harper, Willow, and Jack; siblings, Marilyn J. Quail, Stanley A. (Jane) Mills and Robert D. (Linda) Mills; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Mills; son, Rodney Mills; son-in-law, Irvin E. Kebler; and sister, Kaye Louise “Cookie” Mills.
A private ceremony will be held and Mert will be laid to rest at Norton Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
