Muriel Barcroft's Obituary
Muriel J. Barcroft, age 83, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. She was born December 8, 1939 in Chicago, IL to William and Muriel (McDougal) Smith. She met Joe, her husband of 64 years, in Springfield, IL. They were married on June 27, 1959 and had three children. Muriel graduated from Springfield Lanphier High School. She and Joe raised their children in Springfield, IL, Danville, IL, and Portland, OR. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling to many destinations, including Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil…and visiting 49 states. Muriel worked as a secretary, real estate sales agent, and travel agent. She was an avid card player who was feisty and quick-witted. Most of all, Muriel will be remembered as a loving, giving, supportive mom, wife, grandma, and great-grandma. Muriel is survived by her husband, Joe; their three children: Julie (Jay) Leverenz of Winfield, IL, Joe (Leonardo Carvajal) Barcroft II of St. Louis, MO, and John (Melody) Barcroft of Muskegon, MI; granddaughter, Jennifer (Ben) Goebbert and great-grandson, David Goebbert of South Barrington, IL; and her sister, Barbara Boyd of Apple Valley, CA. SERVICES for Muriel will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 (231) 726-5210. VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
