Nancy H. Hazekamp's Obituary
Nancy H. Hazekamp, age 97, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024. She was born December 30, 1926 in Coopersville, MI to Harm and Nancy (Gitchel) Bennink. On August 8, 1947, she married the love of her life, Paul A. Hazekamp, in Allendale, MI and he preceded her in death on September 25, 2018 after 71 years of marriage. Nancy earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University and belonged to the Sigma Alpha-Beta Epsilon Sorority. Nancy was a teacher for 34 years in the Muskegon and Ottawa County area, and spent the majority of her teaching career with the Orchard View School system, prior to her retirement in 1988. She had been a 38 year member of Grace Christian Reformed Church in Muskegon, had been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Holland, and most recently First Lutheran Church of Muskegon for the last several years. For six years, she had been the Muskegon Township Trustee and spent three years as the Democratic 9th District Secretary. Nancy was a member of the MEA/NEA and MARSP Retirees and also the Eastside Lion’s Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed square dancing and traveling with her husband Paul and the Escapee RV Club. They traveled extensively for 20 years in the United States, Canada, and Mexico and while doing so, found her favorite retirement city in Mission, Texas. Nancy will be greatly missed by all who knew her. SURVIVORS include three children: Richard Paul (Sue) Hazekamp, Sandra Marie (Rev. James) Foster, and David Alan (Patti) Hazekamp; two grandchildren: Benjamin Foster and Jared (Sheena) Foster; great-grand-children: Jude and Kaisa Foster; son-in-law, Pat Corbin; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Nancy was also preceded in death by her daughter, JoAnn Corbin; grandson, Keith Lehmann; two brothers: Garrett and Howard Bennink; and two sisters: Pauline Koning and Jeanetta Dyke. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Nancy will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 28, 2024 at First Lutheran Church (1206 Whitehall Rd., North Muskegon, MI 49445) with her son-in-law, Pastor Jim Foster officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to service. She will be laid to rest in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
