Mr. Nicholas "Nick" Wierema, Jr.'s Obituary
Nicholas “Nick” Wierema, Jr., age 62, passed away Friday morning, October 19, 2012 with his family by his side. Nick was born May 21, 1950 in Muskegon to Nicholas and Josephine (Koolovitz) Wierema, Sr. He was a 1968 graduate of Muskegon High School. He worked for Western Auto, Great Lakes Ford, Northwestern Automotive, VB Manufacturing, and most recently G.E. Aviation for 16 years before retiring. Nick was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #668 and the West Michigan Street Rod Assn. He was a self-described and well known Ford and Stroh’s man. He loved muscle cars, was a Michigan Wolverine and Detroit sports fan, and loved his dogs; especially his many Basset Hounds over the years. On January 11, 1997 he married the former Maureen M. Edick in Muskegon and she survives him along with his son, Evan Johnson of Twin Lake; 2 step-children, Shannon (Derek) Sliter, Jake Moureau both of Muskegon; granddaughter, Brielle Johnson; 2 step-grandchildren, Ryan Sliter, Jacob Moureau, Jr.; his mother, Josephine Wierema of Muskegon; 2 sisters, Mary Jo (Thomas) Pletcher of Norton Shores, Peggy (David) Dolislager; niece, Kristin (Jeff) Gerrans; nephew, Steve (Karen) Dolislager; father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Nancy Edick; sister-in-law, Wendy (Bob) Korson and family; brother-in-law, Joe (Janet) Edick and family; many very close cousins, friends; special friends, Tom Mosher, Joe Fisher, Mike “Ozzy” Osborn, Roger Valachovics, Mike Daly, Randy Nellis, Tim Mansfield, and April McAllaster and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Wierema, Sr. There will be no visitation or funeral, as it was Nick’s wish to donate his body to U of M for medical research, as tribute for their exceptional medical care his entire life. A CELEBRATION OF NICK’S LIFE will be held from 2-6 PM Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Sherman Banquet Room (1531 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI). In lieu of flowers, consider registering to be an organ donor in honor of Nick and Maureen (his kidney donor), or a donation to any cancer, medical, or hospice charity of your choice.
