Nile Porter Hanes' Obituary
Mr. Nile Porter Hanes, age 93, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at his home. He was born August 12, 1919 in Kalkaska, MI to Virgil and Jessie (McCool) Hanes and lived in Muskegon most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and served during WWII. On March 15, 1952, he married the former Betty M. Obert and she preceded him in death on November 20, 2011. Prior to retirement in 1981, he worked 22 years as an electrician for Campbells. Nile enjoyed woodworking, reading, fishing, camping, gardening and had a hobby of polishing stones for use in jewelry. He was a life member of the DAV Chapter 11. SURVIVORS include 6 children, Richard (Julie) Hanes of Muskegon, Loretta (Craig) Chandonnet of Ishpeming, MI, Amy Raley of Muskegon, Molly (Michael) Clark of Lavonia, GA, Nathan (Barbara) Hanes of Muskegon, Jennifer (Michael) Humphreys of Twin Lake; 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by 1 daughter, Valerie Hanes, 1 son, Thomas Hanes, his parents, and 3 sisters, Myrtle Stenberg, Bernice Rowelle, Audrey Hanes. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 3, 2013 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey Street, (231) 798-1100, with Rev. John W. Stenberg officiating.
