Noah H. Hogston's Obituary
Noah H. Hogston, age 36, died peacefully just at sunrise on Monday, November 28, 2022, with his mom and brother with him, and surrounded by the loving thoughts of friends and family. For more than half his life, he battled with the voices of mental illness in his head, which resisted any mental health drugs that had been given. He died of the alcohol addiction which was his only way to quiet those voices and sensations. Noah was born September 29, 1986 on a really stormy night – hence his name. He was a lifelong resident of Muskegon. He was the child of Darrell Hogston (Lori), and Delphine Hogston, who survive him. He is also survived by his brothers, Benjamin (Mandi Garvey) Hogston, Andy (Dana) Hogston, and Dan (Libby) Hogston, and their families, also his Aunt Lois Hogston, Uncle Carl (Kathy) Hogston, Aunt Natalie Houghtby-Haddon, and Uncle Dennis Houghtby. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Florence (Dzur) Hogston, Harlan and Phyllis (Coons) Houghtby, his Aunt Janet (Hogston) Eichler, and his Aunt Sylvia (Houghtby) Nicholas. Noah graduated from North Muskegon High School where he played varsity soccer, and bass in the North Muskegon Orchestra. He received the Psychology Award at graduation. He was on the Dean’s List for 2 semesters at Muskegon Community College. Noah loved playing soccer and playing his guitar. He enjoyed partying with friends. He always gave what he could to help people in need. He helped staff mobile food pantries. If you needed a place – he had one. He would leave spare dollar bills under rocks around town for down & out folks to find. He brought warm tea to the lady begging on the corner. As a final gift, he asked to donate his brain for scientific research, “so others don’t have to suffer this way.” He loved spending time at the Muskegon Nature Reserve (MERES) and the North Muskegon Waterfront Sports Complex (Block 58) where he played soccer as a child and were he spent some of his most peaceful moments this past summer. There will be a memorial service planned at a later date. For those wishing to make an expression of sympathy, Memorial Contributions may be sent to MERES (Muskegon Environmental Research and Education Society), PO Box 5038, North Muskegon, MI 49445.
