Nolan S. Throne's Obituary
Nolan S. Throne, age 90, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 10, 1934, to Henry and Leola (Thomas) Throne in Battle Creek, IA. Nolan graduated from Battle Creek High School, class of 1952, and later pursued his education at Ferris State College, where he earned an associate degree in electronic programming.
A proud veteran, Nolan served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War Era. After completing his service, Nolan moved to Muskegon, MI, in 1959, where he met the love of his life, Sandra Erickson. The couple married on August 12, 1961, and shared 63 years of love, laughter, and companionship. Nolan was a dedicated employee of the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as a clerk for 30 years before retiring in 1993.
An avid golfer, bowler, and fisherman, Nolan was also known for his green thumb, enjoying many years of gardening, particularly in his vegetable garden. Above all, he had an unconditional love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always filling his home with warmth and laughter. He took great pride in hosting family gatherings, often serving up one of his famous fish fries.
Nolan will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, doting grandpa and great-grandpa, wonderful brother, and a dear friend to many. He touched the lives of all who knew him, and his presence will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Throne; three children, Michelle (Joseph) Bishop, Gregory (Melissa) Throne and Rene (James) Nutt; seven grandchildren, Kalie (Derek) Conner, Michael (Jessica) Bishop, Lauren (Michael) Bonner, Nolan (Sydney) Throne, Kyle Nutt, Andrew Nutt and Tyler Nutt; four great-grandchildren, Brody, Bryce, Knox and Benson; two sisters, Judy Pellersels and Barbara (Roger) Welte; three sisters-in-law, Carlene Throne, Linda Throne and Donna Michaelsen; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Nolan was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, Donna (William) Strudwick, Richard Throne, Ernest (Betty) Throne, Norman Throne and Eugene Throne; brother-in-law, Marlen Pellersels. A Celebration of Nolan’s Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. A Visitation with the family will be held one-hour prior at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions donated to Harbor Hospice. Nolan will be laid to rest at Lake Harbor United Methodist Memorial Garden. In accordance with the family’s wishes, they ask everyone to come sporting your favorite Detroit Lions attire, Go Lions!
