Norman David Knopf's Obituary
Mr. Norman David Knopf, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Norton Shores, Michigan on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Norm was born in Muskegon on September 7, 1934 to Carl and Edith (Nord) Knopf. Norm graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1952 and earned his Bachelor of Engineering from Michigan State University School of Packaging. He was employed as a packaging engineer for Merck Pharmaceuticals prior to his retirement, and had previously been employed by Sherwin-Williams. Norm married the former Patricia K. Castine on April 8, 1961 and they enjoyed 55 years marriage prior to her passing in 2017. Norm was dedicated and honored to be her full-time caregiver in her final years. He loved boating, especially sailing in the Muskegon area waters, and was an enthusiast of Great Lakes Nautical History. He also enjoyed photography and vintage cars. Norm is survived by his children, Christopher (Audrey Fenske) Knopf, Glenn (Maura Strausberg) Knopf, Gregory Knopf, and Lynn Knopf; grandchildren, John (Karly) Knopf, Beth Knopf, and Claire Knopf; great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Oliver; brother, Roger Knopf; and his beloved cat, Chessie, who brought him such comfort in his final days. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; parents; and brothers, Donald, John, Paul, and Ralph Knopf. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 25, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. VISITATION will be from 2-4 PM Sunday, August 24, 2025 at The Lee Chapel and one hour prior to Norm’s service on Monday. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery.
