Norman, was my older first cousin, who was also my role-model. He was enough older that I would watch him play hoop basketball in the driveway, punch a punching bag in the garage and play badminton in the yard with the rest of the “older cousins.” He was always laughing, kind, and brilliant. I was proud of our family and looked forward to our times together. I remember Mona Lake picnics —learning to play horseshoes, and joining the badminton game. Each time, Norm was there, unaware I was watching him effortlessly, joyfully interacting with the family.
Over the years, our family grew and grew; then, it began to shrink. yet, Norm was always there, keeping the family reunion tradition joyful, caring, and fun. Now, while Nancy and I are unable to attend reunions. Norm is still modeling for me the way to move forward.
I shall miss you dear cousin, but I know you will be gathering the Pattersons together for my last reunion when we meet again in the great beyond.
