Norman Smith's Obituary
Norm was born September 10, 1936, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to Harry Smith and Minerva (Baeske) Smith and passed away October 9, 2021 at his home in West Olive. He was the oldest of the family, often in charge of watching and caring for his siblings. He graduated from Jackson High School and joined the Air Force. He spent time in Japan where he loaded munitions on planes and later was a weapons instructor and taught flight line defense. He owned several small businesses. He earned his living at one time, traveling to archery and dart tournaments. Norm enjoyed his time with the boy scouts teaching them archery. He earned his B.A. in elementary Education, M.A. in Educational Psychology, and a M.Ed. in Adult Education all from Michigan State University. He worked at a variety of jobs, including making wooden shoes, factory work, and working in various aspects at several banking institutions. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, driving-especially to the Upper Peninsula, gaming, country living and various types of music. He is survived by his wife, Sally (Garbrecht) Smith, brother, Jerry and wife, Theresa; sister, Cathleen Williams; Sally’s daughters, Bobbi Jo Quick, and Barbara (Tim) Kerr; and several nieces and nephews.
