Norman H. Thompson's Obituary
Norman H. Thompson, age 74, of Muskegon passed away Monday, June 1, 2015. He was born one of seven children on August 22, 1940 to Chalmers and Trena Thompson in Muskegon. From the time Norman was a young man working was a large part of his life. He started working at his father’s nursery; from there he worked at marinas in North Muskegon helping with boat repair. The Thompson family has a tradition of working together in various businesses; owning Thompson Landscape and Irrigation, Thomp Co. and Thompson Hardware Store, which he built, owned and operated. Norm was a proud Journeyman machine repairman and registered well driller. He worked for CWC Textron, Teledyne and General Motors. After high school Norm served proudly in the US Army on a tank battalion in Germany. After returning from the service Norm met the love of his life, the former Linda Hogan, and together they spent 52 happy years together. In his retirement Norm enjoyed taking fishing and hunting trips with his family to Manistee and traveling with his wife. He will be missed by all who were a part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Linda Thompson; children, Mike (Tami) Thompson, Michelle (Frank) Riley, Mark (Cindy) Thompson; grandchildren, Brooke, Michael, Molly, Dusty, Katie, Luke, Dirk; great granddaughter, Gracie; and siblings, Janise, Jack and Richard. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim; sisters, Charlene, Kathleen; in-laws, Fred and Millie Hogan. A VISITATION will be held at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 E. Apple Ave. (231-726-5210) from 6:00 – 8:00pm on Thursday, June 4, 2015. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (1110 Dykstra Rd, North Muskegon, MI 49445) on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 11:00AM.
