Norman E. VanDyke's Obituary
Mr. Norman E. VanDyke, age 75, passed away Monday afternoon at the VNS Hospice Residence in Muskegon following a long illness. Norman was born in Muskegon on December 19, 1934 to Pete and Goldie (Elwell) VanDyke. He enlisted into the U.S. Army on July 14, 1955 and served his country proudly for the next six years. Norman was employed as a custodian at, Muskegon Community College for 29 years, retiring in 1996. He was a former member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Muskegon where he served as, Eucharistic Minister, Greeter and was active in the Monday evening Prayer Group. He is a current member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven, a life member of V.F.W. Post #446, the D.A.V. Chapter 11 and the Catholic Association of Social Teaching. On September 20, 1958, Norman married the former Frances Forward and she survives him along with: two sons, Thomas (Dawn) VanDyke of Norton Shores and William (Karen) VanDyke of Grand Haven; two granddaughters, Nicole (Dan) Malseed and Sara VanDyke and her fiancé, Aaron Keller; two brothers, George (Marcia) VanDyke of Rothbury and Dick (Jackie) VanDyke of N. Muskegon; one sister, Joyce Peabody of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Linda VanMunster, Donna Jean Hall and Joanne Krogstad. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at: St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven at 11:00 A.M., Friday, Fr. William Langlois presiding. Visitation will be held at: The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 Thursday, 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. The interment with full military rites will be held at: Sunrise Memorial Gardens at 2:30 P.M., Friday, under the auspices of VFW Post 446. Memorial Contributions: VNS Hospice.
