Norman R. Wood's Obituary
Mr. Norman R. Wood, age 78, passed away Tuesday evening, January 24, 2012 at the Heartwood Lodge and Hospice. He was born February 22, 1933 in Muskegon to Kenneth and Sophie (Muth) Wood and had been a life resident of the area. Mr. Wood graduated from Muskegon High School in 1952. He played football for the Muskegon Big Reds and was inducted into the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame on June 4, 2005 along with the 1951 State Champion Big Red Football Team. He then served in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1953-1955. On August 22, 1953, he married the former Darlene Felcoski at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Muskegon. Mr. Wood was employed at S.D. Warren (Scott Paper) for 40 years, where he served on the E.M.B.A. Committee for many years. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Viking Linne’ Lodge No. 57, and the Muskegon “M” Club. Norm was an avid golfer who also enjoyed riding around “the lake”, fishing, spending time in Venice, FL, but most of all, spending time with family and friends. SURVIVORS include his wife of 58 years, Darlene; 3 daughters, Kim (William) Straley of Roosevelt Park, Kelly (Danny) Morehouse of Norton Shores, and Kristie (John) Sommavilla of Holland; 8 grandchildren, Brett (Amy) Straley, Jennifer (Christopher) Schecter, Heidi (Jeff Gaston) Morehouse, Lindsey (Ryan) Stark, Jonny (Leah) Morehouse, Scott (Stacy) Sommavilla, Katie and Carly Sommavilla; 6 great-grandchildren and 1 due in June. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Wood, Jr. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Philip P. Salmonowicz presiding. VISITATION with the family will be from 6-8 PM Friday at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. (231) 759-8565 and also one hour prior to the service Saturday morning at the church. Entombment will take place in St. Mary’s Mausoleum. MEMORIALS may be made to the Linne’ Lodge No. 57 Viking Scholarship Fund or the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Building Fund.
