Mr. Oaklan R. Senf, age 89 joined his Lord Jesus, on Thursday morning, January 15, 2009, following a long illness. Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” In prayer, Oaklan asked God, “Father, what is my cross? God spoke aloud to Oaklan: “ Your Cross is in Loving Others” This message from God is for all people in this world to receive, so walk, and follow Jesus, God the Son of God. Oaklan was a true Servant of Christ. He designed and made the ebony Givers’ Cross which he freely gave to hundreds of people for spiritual inspiration. Oaklan R. Senf was born in Grand Rapids on July 29, 1919 and raised in Fremont. He moved to Muskegon when he married the former Elsie Hanson in 1942, she preceded him in death in 1980. Elsie and Oaklan had 7 children; 6 sons and one daughter. He later married Marjorie Levine in 1983 and she survives him. Marge and Oaklan enjoyed motorcycling with the Gold Wing Road Riders Club and were members of Edgewood Lutheran Church. Until his retirement, Oaklan was employed at C.W.C. and Teledyne-Continental Motors in the engineering department. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and gained many design patents throughout his career. He is survived by: wife, Marjorie; five sons, Ron (Dottie) Senf, Dan (Mary Lou) Senf, Randy (Judy) Senf, Dave Senf and Jeff Senf; daughter, Nancy Ricco; three step-children, Theresa (Ed) Pearson, Sherry (Ron) Bunting and Bob (Deb) Levine; two brothers, Carl and Robert Ackerman;16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by; a son, Alan Peter Senf and daughter-in law, Pat Senf. The funeral service will be held at: The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 at 10:00 A.M., Monday, Rev. Lewis Glick officiating. Visitation: Sunday 2-4 PM. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Every Women’s Place or the Muskegon Rescue Mission. He will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
