Ofelia Mendez's Obituary
Mrs. Ofelia Mendez went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 25, 2004. Mrs. Mendez was born February 10, 1933 to Tranquelino and Cristina (Garcia) Amaya in Crystal City, TX, but was raised most of her life by her step mom Gregoria Amaya. She married Eluterio Mendez January 16, 1949 in Crystal City TX, then moved to Wisconsin briefly before moving to the Muskegon area in 1950. Mrs. Mendez was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. SURVIVORS include her husband, Eluterio Mendez; 8 children, Cristina (The Late Jesus) Marinez, Sylvia (Alfonso) Rodriguez, Diana (Juan) Estrada, David (Evelyn) Mendez, Gloria (Paul) Ramirez, Arturo Mendez, Juan Mendez, Patricia (Scott) Haiker; 21 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Juan (Socorro) Amaya, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mendez was PRECEDED in death by her son, Jose Carlos Mendez; 1 brother, Rogelio Amaya; 1 grand daughter, Melissa Marinez; and 1 great grandson, Isaiah Garza. The Mendez family would like to express a special thank you to granddaughter Michelle Valdez-Medina and Robin Kerr for the care they showed Mrs. Mendez. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Father Michael Olsen officiating. A committal service will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. VISITATION with the family will be Monday, January 26, from 6-8 PM; and Tuesday, January 27, 2-4 & 6-8 PM, with a 7 PM Rosary service at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210.
