Olga R. MacDowell's Obituary
Olga Rutman MacDowell, age 92, passed away in February.
Olga was born in Detroit to Emily and Charles Rutman. After graduating from Wayne University (as it was then known), she taught home economics in Grand Rapids. She married Logan MacDowell, with whom she raised daughters Lisa and Laurie in Norton Shores. Olga was an enthusiastic sewer, knitter, and quilter, and greatly enjoyed the friendships that she made through these activities. She traveled regionally and overseas with both local groups and family members.
Olga was predeceased by Logan and by daughter Laurie MacDowell. She is survived by daughter Lisa MacDowell (Chandler Gilman); granddaughter Thea MacDowell-Gilman; niece Cindy (Brian) Francisco and her children and grandchildren; cousin Ann (Don) Bruner and her children and grandchildren; and Susan Stieber, who was like a cousin to Olga throughout life. Olga’s family is deeply grateful for the caring companionship of Sherri, Laurel, Pat, and Maria.
A celebration of Olga’s life will take place this spring. Donations in Olga’s name would be welcome at Blue Lake Public Radio, Every Woman’s Place, or Muskegon Rescue Mission. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444.
