Mrs "Oma" Jacoba DeVries' Obituary
Mrs. Jacoba A. DeVries, age 103, passed away Friday evening September 21, 2012. She was born July 1, 1909 in the Netherlands to Adriaan and Maria (Jaquet) van Doorn. She married Mr. Wolter DeVries and he preceded her in death in 1992. Oma had lived a long and fulfilling life, and touched many lives along the way (all who have become instant fans of her secret to living to 103 years). She had attended First Congregational Church for many years. The family would especially like to express their appreciation to the staff of Day Spring Assisted Living Center, who helped make the last 3 years of Oma’s life comfortable and filled with love. She loved all of you. “Oma, May your Heaven be filled with cookies.” Jacoba is survived by her daughters, Veronica (Russell) Cloetingh and Leny Rogier; her son, Walt (Linda McIntosh)DeVries; grandchildren, Stephon VanderWater, Teresa LaVigne, Jennifer Vanderwater, Conny (Mike) Steele, Vanessa (Todd) Shaffer, and Chad DeVries; great grandchildren, Ryan, Kristen, Courtney, and Hunter Vanderwater. In addition to her husband, Oma was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary VanRandwyk; sister, Clara Vaandrager; son-in-laws, Matt VanRandwyk and Frans Rogier. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 7:00PM Tuesday evening September 25, 2012 at The Lee Chapel 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Rev. Russ Damm officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service (6-7pm). In lieu of flowers, MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to The Muskegon Rescue Mission.
