Patricia H. Avery's Obituary
Patricia Helena Avery, age 71, passed away while surrounded by family in her home in Fruitport, MI, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Patricia was born in Midland, MI, on July 17, 1954, to John and Joyce (King) Carey, and she graduated from Grand Haven High School. She married Dayne Avery, and the two of them spent over 50 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in January of 2026. Patricia worked for many years as an insurance agent at Linck Insurance in Ravenna. She was very involved in the Ravenna community; for many years she ran a daycare from her home, and she also served as a town coordinator for a while, organizing many local holiday events over the years, and was also a dedicated girl scout leader. Patricia loved animals and was often looking to find homes for rescues. Prior to her illness she had a great memory and was always the go-to person for her family history. She was extremely social and could make friends with anybody, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand where it was needed.
Patricia will be lovingly remembered by her two children: Amanda (Michael) Ewer and David Avery; two grandchildren: Daniel Ewer and Tyler Avery; three siblings: Randy Carey, Nancy Carey, and Tim (Gina) Carey; six nieces and nephews: Jessica (William McDonald) Sudy, Christopher (Ashley Sietsema) Sudy, Lauren (Derek) Decan, Tyler (Melinda) Carey, Drew Boyd, and Logan Boyd; and several other extended relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Details regarding a Celebration of Life for Dayne and Patricia will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Noah Project. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444.
