Patricia L. Berndt's Obituary
Mrs. Patricia L. Berndt, age 82, passed away on March 6, 2024. Pat was born on January 31, 1942 to Gustave and Aletea (Taylor) Yost in Marshall, Michigan. On April 30, 1966, Pat married the love of her life, Doug Berndt (C. Douglas.) During the first five years of marriage, Pat lived in a small house across from Lake Michigan, Pere Marquette beach. Pat frequently spoke about how much she enjoyed living across from the lake and surrounding area. Later, she moved to the Lakeside area of Muskegon and fell in love with the neighborhood and living in the little “house on the corner.” Pat spent most of her working years providing a variety of services in the medical field. She found her niche working as a medical coder and insurance biller for TriCounty Orthopedics where she worked many years until retirement in 2009. Pat enjoyed small house and yard projects and sewing adventures. Along with Doug, she was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and Chicago Cubs fan. During and after her son, Tim, attended Central Michigan University, she and Doug frequently attended CMU Chippewas football games. For many years, she and her sister, Judy, went on regular shopping excursions in Chicago. Marathon Key in Florida was a favorite vacation destination where Doug and her along with sister Judy and brother in-law Jack would spend the coldest part of the winter months. Pat was full of love and positivity, which flowed over to those around her including friends, family members, and special grandchildren, Alex and Caleb. She was a lover of animals, specifically dogs. Following Doug’s death in 2013, Pat was kept company by her faithful buddy - Hunter the beagle. Pat is SURVIVED by her son, Tim Berndt; special grandchildren, Alex and Caleb Cereska; stepmother, Florence Yost; brothers, Ronald Yost, Michael (Diana) Yost, and Jeffrey (Carol) Yost; sister, Lori (Gary) Feerick; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Judith (Jack) Powers; and brother, David Parker. A PRIVATE CELEBRATION will be held for the family at a later date. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Big Lake Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
