Patricia P. Carten's Obituary
Patricia P. Carten, age 78, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at home. She was born on January 12, 1942 to Bert and Pearl (Lancaster) Hoeker. Michigan has been home to Patricia all her life and where she grew her family. Little did she know she would meet her life-long sweetheart at just age 12 while riding her bike. In 1957, Patricia married the love of her life, Patrick Carten at St. Thomas Church in Muskegon, MI. Together they cherished 63 years of love and laughter. Many of these memories were created as her and Patrick worked side by side at their family business, Carten Shoe Repair Shop. In her spare-time she enjoyed reading, usually a romance novel. She took pride in being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Patricia loved her family whole-heartedly and cherished all the family gatherings they had. She was a gentle natured woman but was not afraid to be a little spunky. She will truly be missed by many. She is survived by her husband, Patrick Carten; children, Shawn Carten, Colleen (Ken) Juntunen, Kevin (Ranae) Carten and Shannon (Renee) Carten; 10 grandchildren, K.C, Jason, Matthew, James, Jared, Krista, Amanda, Cory, Elizabeth and Mason; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirly Hancock; and brother-in-law, John Hancock. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 1:00 PM at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. Visitation with the family will take place one-hour prior. Memorial contributions in Patricia’s name may be directed to the Harbor Hospice Foundation.
