Patricia A. "Patt" Freeland's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Patricia “Patt” Ann Freeland, age 76, announces her passing on May 7, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Dementia in Muskegon. Patt was born on January 6, 1950, to Elmer and Donna (Morse) Flannery in Muskegon. A lifelong resident of the area, Patt graduated from Orchard View High School where she met Greg Freeland. The high school sweethearts were married on December 12, 1970, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family for over 50 wonderful years until Greg’s passing in 2021.
Patt dedicated over 30 years to K-Mart Corp. (Henry St. #4428), where she excelled as the Office Manager and was known for her strong work ethic and commitment to the “K-Mart Family”. After retiring, she just couldn’t quit! She spent another 15 years in banking with 5/3 Bank (Whitehall & Muskegon) and Community Shores Bank (Muskegon), where she shined behind the teller window offering kindness and good financial sense. After retiring again, she found part time employment with Michigan’s Adventure Theme Park. Patt loved her role as landscaper, combining her love of plants, the outdoors, and neatness. Her strong work ethic, commitment to the task, and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Patt cherished her family and small circle of friends above all else. Her happiest moments were those spent traveling, out on the lake, and chatting along the backyard fence. She simply loved being outdoors in the sunshine. Patt enjoyed watching, and rooting loudly for, her kids, grandkids, and favorite players during many sporting events. She could often be found on the top row of the bleachers and mere feet from the TV instructing and encouraging as only she could. Patt was an extremely proud mom and “Nama”, rarely missing a game or a performance. She and Greg took yearly vacations with family or friends and she never shied away from the next adventure.
Patt was a loving, caring wife, proud mother, cherished grandmother, and supportive friend. She was someone you could rely on, never turning down the chance to help a friend, and someone you enjoyed talking to for her good advice, humor, and wit. Patt had an infectious smile and spread joy like confetti, right up to end.
Patt will be missed by her devoted children, Mindy (Tara Dinsmoor) Freeland and Brett (Coty Taylor) Freeland; adorable grandchildren, Avery, Preslee, and Kruz; sister, Sharon Burda; sisters-in-law, Melanie (Charlie) DeKryger, Cheryl (Mike) Kozik, and Pam Uller; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Her family takes comfort knowing she is now at peace and reunited with her husband, Greg Freeland; parents, Elmer and Donna Flannery; brothers, David Flannery, Larry Flannery, and Rick Flannery; and dear friends Dean and Shar Sanborn.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 2-5:00 PM on Friday, May 15, 2026, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 and small luncheon. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, memorials can be made as a donation to Harbor Hospice of Muskegon in memory of Patricia Freeland.
