Mrs. Patricia J. Kammers' Obituary
Mrs. Patricia Joan Kammers, age 85, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015 in Muskegon. She was born on May 21, 1929 in Grand Rapids to Nicholas and Alma (Didion) VanderLaan. Patricia was a graduate of Aquinas College and the University of Michigan. She was an elementary school teacher in the Grand Rapids area prior to her marriage, and worked as a substitute teacher for Mona Shores Schools until her retirement in 1994. On September 8, 1962, Patricia married Joseph M. Kammers and together they made their home in Norton Shores where they lovingly raised three children. Joe preceded Patricia in death on February 8, 1997. Survivors include her children, Rosemary (Brad) Martin of Vandalia, Brian (Janice) Kammers of Rockford, and Diane (Jeff) Lysiak of Muskegon; grandchildren Brandon, Brittany, Courtney, and Collin Martin, Bradley (Emily), Elizabeth, Joseph, and Richard Kammers, Nathan (Brandi) and Cody Witkowski, Mason and Gage Lysiak; great grandchildren Faith and Layla. She is also survived by her brothers, Donald VanderLaan of Jenison and Frederick (Gloria) VanderLaan of Grandville; her sister, Veronica Jarmosco of Arizona and sisters-in-law, Marcella Kammers and Christine Ahearn of Muskegon. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. In addition to her husband, Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and sister, many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. Patricia was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, serving on the funeral luncheon committee for many years, and as a faithful supporter of the Saint Michael Divine Mercy Chapel. She was formerly a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Patricia may be made to Catholic Charities of West Michigan, Harbor Hospice, or another charity of your choice. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 2, 2015, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. James VanderLaan presiding. VISITATION will be from 1-5 PM Sunday, February 1, 2015, at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with the ROSARY prayed at 1:00 PM, and from 10-11AM Monday at church. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
